BMW held its lead over competitor Audi in global luxury-car sales. BMW delivered 153,000 cars worldwide in May, 10% more than in the same period a year earlier. That was about 1,000 more vehicles than Volkswagen’s Audi. Through the first five months of 2014, BMW increased its sales by 11%, while Audi’s sales climbed 12%. “The BMW group continued to achieve record sales in May, keeping us well on track to sell over 2 million vehicles in 2014,” Ian Robertson, head sales & marketing said.
The strongest gains, BMW enjoyed in the U.S., where deliveries rose nearly 5%, while sales in Europe advanced by 2%. “Customer demand in the USA is showing solid growth, whilst Asia continues to be strong,” Robertson added.
