Janet Yellen confirmed by the U.S. Senate

January 7, 2014

Janet Yellen was confirmed as chairman of the Federal Reserve in the U.S. Senate with a vote of 56-26. This was the least Senate support on record, showing that the central bank faces intense political scrutiny. Federal Reserve President Ben Bernanke, who will end his tenure the end of this month, said  the economic recovery “clearly remains incomplete." However, QE taper did not indicate any diminution of commitment to maintaining a highly accommodative policy for as long as needed.
